Does anyone have any information as to when it might become available?

There are no short or medium term plans to extend DAB beyond what is there now.

Limerick, Cork and the east coast and inland are covered. It's been that way for years.
I would not hold my breath that it ever comes to Galway any time soon.

got an unused smart-ish phone lying around?.... use it to stream online digital radio to a hifi via a 3.5mm - RCA cable (they're cheap)... I use this method to listen to BBC 6Music all the time, TuneIn is a great app for it
