Bought a new ipod for the missus at xmas. She already has an old old one and itunes set up on her Mac. It seems the program will only recognize the old ipod though and not the new one. Is there something in the settings of the program she needs to change?

    Thanks in advance

Make sure you have the most recent version of iTunes installed.

Is this iPod being recognised by your PC at all? Does it show up as a disk drive? If so then I suspect it's no. 5 in this link. Just installing the driver should do it.

Otherwise try the steps provided in that link. One of them should do it.

Also try to check does it work with another computer (any friend's PC will do).

It is a Mac she has not a PC. Because of this I thought this process would be easier. In terms of installing drives etc, the Mac is recognising it and saying that the Mac does not recognise a camera programme on the ipod and then asking her to authorize her itunes account. When she does this it tells her the computer is already authorized and then that's the end. New ipod still not working with itunes. Does she have to put another itunes account on her Mac for this ipod in particular? Is there not just some 'You seem to have a new version ipod would you like to utilize this with your itunes' thing that should be happening?

Try putting the iPod in DFU. iTunes should recognise it then. Have a look on YouTube for DFU. It's the same for iPhones and iPods.

    How old is the mac?

Just over 3 years old. Is that a problem in terms of compatability?
