    for some reason this hasn't made much reporting in the media. cyclist was on or close to a roundabout on particularly busy stretch of main roadway into Limerick city. The road was closed for investigation for a a number of hours after victim taken to hospital. RIP

    If so, was the junction changed to a roundabout since the StreetView image above was created?

    By the way the road closures went, and the description on the radio, I think it happened just off the roundabout here.

    Press reporting was largely based on Garda press release

    Sometimes family members/friends will speak to the press and on other occasions they simply want privacy. The media (like us on Boards) are not going to speculate over the circumstances/cause - this will be subject to inquest and an official investigation at which these things can be determined.

    A general point not aimed at the above poster, but please only refer to information from a reliable source and do not speculate over what may or may not have happened

    Odd that five days on there is no name released. It makes me speculate that the person was not a national.

    I have a lot of friends that cycle through that roundabout on their way home. I haven't heard anything from anyone, so assume all of those known to me are okay.

    The deceased man is Philip McCormack, who was well-known in Limerick.
