I like to listen to talksport sometimes as I travel a lot. Can receive it on 1089 on AM On car radio. The best reception I get seems to be at night down in cork.

The reception is obviously poor and crackles a lot. Is there anyway to pick up the uk radio stations in the car with reasonable quality. 3g is not reliable and I don't want to use podcasts etc..

Without internet No. Am radio from another country will always crackle and fade.

TalkSport is available on DAB if you are in the South East using TotalDAB

Another ideal solution for 3G in car radio is to use TuneIN Pro App (I think it costs 1.99) and you can set a large bufffer and auto re-connect in the settings so when the coverage drops momentarily it will keep the stream continuous until the buffer runs out in the hope it will pick up again as you drive along.

Obviously it will loose the audio from when you are out of coverage but it does reduce the annoyance of constant disconnections as often I dont even notice it has happened unless its a track playing and it sounds like a CD skipping for a second.

Can pick up most of the UK stations very clear in certain parts of Sligo as we are so close to the border.

I often dream about, not having to listen to old 'out dated' radio presenters, like Ray Darcy and Rick 0'Shea. God should they not be in a nursing home?

Thanks this sounds good, what's the biggest buffer you can set. Its 5.31 now for android.
Also what vpn do people use for uk radio, tunnel bear seems to work

30sec is the max buffer on the TuneIn Pro App

Also I never needed a VPN listening via TuneIn

I don't even think you need the "pro" version. I use the free version every day for UK and US radio. I even drove from Cavan to Dublin listening to a Japanese jazz station recently.

    TuneIn is spectacular.

Cool, I am actually unsure of the differences in free vs pro, possibly best to check out free first and see what it allows you do.

I agree, TuneIn is excellent, probably one of the better apps out there. They do listen to feedback too and its reflected in updates.

As fad as I know the main functional difference is simply the ability to record radio. Something I never do. ;)

I guess the free one will be the job in that case so!

Just noticed that talksport block access from abroad on internet radio.

A couple of stations in the UK have geo-blocked all content lately.

So without a vpn (I use ExpressVPN) it won't work.

Was just listening to it on TuneIn with no VPN.

Just noticed that talksport block access from abroad on internet radio.

This is only when they are broadcasting a live event, such a a football match. Those same matches are available in Ireland on either TodayFM or Newstalk at the weekends, but not the midweek ones.

At all other times TalkSport is not geoblocked. I listen to Durham & Gough almost every day, drivetime, and sometimes to Alan Brazil at breakfast.

    That's odd.

They must have my IP address then!

I tried listening to the Sunday morning programme with the guy off Soccer am & Barry glendenning.

11am & no live sport broadcast.

Wouldn't work unless I connected via the UK .

    Its odd.
    Must be just me!

Tried tunein today in car. Talksport wouldn't work."couldn't connect to stream". Same using the talksport app. Irish stations worked okay. Must take a look later to see what happened.

For those in car using phone what do you play the audio through. For a tom tom hands free but once hit motorway couldn't hear a thing - do you play it through the car radio?

Oddly enough listened to alan Brazil on am 1089 today on m8/m7 and was good enough quality

I use a cassette adapter as it's better than pretty much any wireless option... it might not LOOK sexy, but it's only me looking so...
