Lawmaker for a day....

As the title says, you are allowed to make 1 law (music related and pretend it takes a full day to get passed to fit with the title :) ), what would it be? Personally, I would make it law that if there is a charge on the door of a venue, all acts must be paid a percentage. Everyone else working that night are paid so why not the people who actually draw the crowd? I dont want to put down the job of a venue booker but lets be honest, for the mostpart its 1 or 2 phonecalls per band and the night is sorted and he/she is guaranteed pay. For some they barely have to lift a finger as if the venue is popular, bands will contact them instead and beg for a gig. I would stretch it to a minimum wage for performers but dont think that could ever happen for many reasons. So, what would yours be? Remember its just 1 law so no "I would do this or this or this" :)

If you reply to an advert looking for band members and you agree to go to a rehearsal/audition, you must turn up.... and on time.

    To follow on from that;

1 - When you're in rehearsals; a bit of a laugh is fine, but if you're spending more time taking the piss than rehearsing, I don't apologise for getting pissed off, especially if there's a gig coming up and that's why we're there.

2 - When you're not playing for a certain part of a song or we're talking in between songs, turn down your goddamn volume, I don't want to hear your feedback, scraping off strings, etc.

3 - Don't turn up with just a guitar and expect me to supply you with picks, cables, a capo and a tuner.

Might be more of a rant but how and ever.

    Thought of another "law"......

Rehearsal rooms are slightly smaller than the "O2", so set the volume knob on your amp accordingly.

If all publically performing musicians would join the Union there would be no need for dream laws.

    "About Us
The Musicians’ Union of Ireland (MUI), an affiliate of SIPTU, represents musicians from every genre along with music teachers, singers and other music professionals.

The Union works hard to protect members, whether freelance or directly employed, from exploitation and has a successful track record of ensuring that members receive all contractual entitlements arising from their performances.…"

I remember looking at that before but they were asking for some number or code that I hadn't a clue about so gave up :)

Agreed! What is a * Payroll No./ Clock No. and why does it require a mandatory field. Musicians Union of Ireland? Not so well thought out I guess

    Wo ist die Gemütlichkeit?

Another "law"....leave your ego outside the door of the rehearsal room or gig venue.

performers shall be primarily concerned with delivering quality to the audience and so shall listen to the sound engineer and reduce stage volume accordingly.

.....and to the other musicians in the band. Too often, I find that people seem to play within their own little bubble, quite oblivious to what others around them are playing.

Yet another law layed down. ;)
