I've heard from people, who live in my housing development that there were once "funny" stones where our estate (built about 15 years) now stands - and that the land may once have been a burial ground.

I find this rather chilling. The idea that our houses were built on a burial ground does not sit well with me at all, at all.

Be more afraid of the living than the dead.

Is it an indian burial ground?
Have any deceased pets come back to life?
Is there a portal to another dimension in your closet?

If you've answered yes to one of these then you too are a victim of celtic tiger housing.

I'm currently sitting in front of my fire thinking that the image of demons keep appearing in the fire. :(

I've seen manys a strange thing in my life, but I have yet to encounter a 'funny' stone. What makes them so funny? Do they tell jokes? Do they look ridiculous? Do they kick you in the bum when you're not looking?

    Yikes...
You mean to say you're actually living on an old Indian Burial Ground ?
Don't even wait to get your coat...
Get out NOW... while you still can.

(Or maybe the builder was a bit sloppy)

Go to the Ordinance Survey mapviewer site, and you can view historic maps of your area. There is even an "overlay on/off" feature, whereby you can instantly switch from modern site maps and historic maps.

You can also go to "legend", and highlight among other things, burial grounds.
I was amazed to find a modern apartment block, built on what was previously the local Gallows!

    Nah, sure they're dead right?

As long as you never close one of those medicine cabinet mirrors at night
    or have a shower curtain
or look behind you right now

    they'll never get you

Does the bed spin in a counter clockwise direction?

If it doesn't, you should probably get that fixed.

The world is so old that no matter where you step, someone has died/is buried there.

The old white 6" to the mile maps will give a hell of a lot of detail about your area.
Also, the local Irish name for the townsland may give a clue.
During Famine times lots of people were buried with just a rough marker, a stone without inscription.
My house stands in an old Graveyard and 20% of the 'headstones' are just rough, un-inscribed rocks.
These were graves of poorer folks or maybe pauper graves.

    So did I.
Have to admit I was strangely disappointed when I wasn't torn asunder.
