Just wondering if anyone had stayed in the above campsite and could tell me about the facilities and what's available locally- restaurants, bars, things to do etc.

We've booked for 2 weeks in August (staying in our motorhome).

Hoping there's plenty to do within walking or cycling distance as we have 3 young children 6 and under :)

    Thanks

you might have gotten info elsewhere , but i said i'd reply anyway.

I havent stayed at your campsite as such, but we did spend 2 weeks at the Bois Dormant campsite a short distance from where you're going.

You're a little bit out from the town itself, nothing major though. overall its a lovely area, theres a zoo a short drive away and plenty to see, is there anything in particular you're after?

    Thanks for your response.

Mainly just looking for beaches or nice restaurants within walking distance (20/30 mins) of the site. We can drive to most other sites or places of interest.

Is St Hilaire de Riez the closest town?

I'm reading some quite negative feedback on St Jean de Monts- suggestions is a tacky tourist town?

    tripadvisor I assume?
I saw those reviews after we had booked, and was worried myself! No need to be, its lovely, the town itself isnt overly large, and has a sort of 'old half' and 'new half' thing going on. the old half is naturally very traditional, whereas the new bit seems to be down by the sea where there are a lot of hotels. There is one particular area that has a lot of bars & restaurants together, but to be honest, we didnt find this until the very last day, its not like blackpool in the uk with amusement arcades and nightclubs etc, in fact its pretty quiet overall apart form the days that the market is on. Those days are mental.

Challans is probably closer than St Hilaire de Riez, but not by much.

If you arrive on a sunday, pretty much everything is closed, and then on the monday, the Supermarkets are totally jam packed with people stocking up for the week, so if you have small kids, it might be an idea to send one of the adults off to do the shopping on their own.

That's great thank you very much.

Yes those reviews were on Tripadvisor and also some camping forums. Good to know its not the case. While we love the "real France", with 3 young children, it's difficult to pack up the camper every day to go exploring, so it's handy to be in the centre of things.

    Sounds good. Thanks again.

Just wondering if anyone has been to this area recently and if there are some proper French restaurants of is it full of moules & pizza tourist places?!
