This might be a stupid question but if you have a TV that doesn't have Saorview, do you need a set top box even if connecting it to a Sky box and dish??

It's a freeview TV from UK so I don't expect to be able to pick up the signal

I can't understand why people ask such silly questions, after the year we all spent at Digital switch over camp.

Post the make & model. Plenty of 'Freeview' TVs are fine for Saorview.

Might be alright. Can Ireland be selected in country settings in the initial setup menu? You might have to do a 'factory/shipping condition reset' to access this setting.

Of course, you will also need to connect a suitable aerial to the TV. The Sky box & dish is no use for Saorview.

Guys, you've not read the post. No, you do not need a Saorview compatible TV if you are connecting it to a satellite box

The Saorview TV is needed if OP wants Saorview (obviously). Meant to ask in my last post if they have a Sky sub., & already get the Irish channels that way.

Think we need a bit of clarification here.

I wouldnt think so. I just had a look at the manual for it online (UMC are the tech partners for these rebrands) and it doesnt mention H264 anywhere. Infact it mentions that it only plays MPEG1 & 2 video via USB which is a tell tell sign of no H264 support (MKV's etc) as the same chip would be used to porcess the DVB-T tuner module.

To answer the OP, you can get a box like the ferguson 250 for €100 which will do Saorview and the free UK Satellite stations in one channel list with a remote that will control the TV and the Satellite box. You dont need a Sky box at all.

You simply connect your existing dish to it and your existing aerial.
