A while ago UPC were doing work around my area and were to put a cable up the side of my house, I didn't want them doing this so they offered me free basic TV until they were done, they never took the TV away. Now I'm switching to UPC broadband and would like to know would they when installing the broadband see that I was getting TV in my house and cut it off or try to charge me for it?

    Thanks

    hi,
i think when they go to send the signal to your home they will be able to see you are currently connected.
there is a package out now which includes tv with multiple channels (horizon receiver), 128mb bb and telephone landline for 63 p/m.
this package is available for new customers which costs only 35 for the first six months.
the horizon receiver can record multiple programmes at the same time. it also has pre-installed programs such as youtube / fb etc,.
so maybe you would be better getting a package that has better value than just bb and basic tv, even if your tv is free there may be better packages out there.

But I don't really watch TV and don't want anything fancy, just the basic channels, so they will be able to tell its there? Do you think they'll cut it off or charge me for it? I'm signing up for the 44 euro 120mb package, for that bundled with horizon is 73 which I cant afford.

If its only the analogue you have working, its not unknown for UPC to not disconnect analogue at all anymore (they do, usually, but not always) so its unlikely it'll be noticed. They'll go to reconnect the cable to the tap, find its already done and leave it.

Once you've the broadband cable connected, the analogue channels are inherently still there - they don't use notch filters. So they won't be removed.

44 sounds steep to me for bb only.
    MYOB sounds right.

    MYOB is correct.

Remember theres a standalone fee of about a fiver/mo if you get only 1 service. Think its cheaper to take the phone and not use it.
