Quick qs. Is there any plans for the USC to be scraped? Is this an indefinite charge we'll have to incur to the end of our days or is it purely an austerity measure that will come to an end eventually?

It will be there for the foreseeable future. Even if it is scrapped the money would have to be made up by increasing the standard+higher rate.

If Ireland started running a budget surplus they would have more options.

Note that the USC replaced two previous levies.

For most people, they pay less USC than the two previous levies.
