03 Ford Focus Dash Clocks replacement shows different milage

The dash clocks on my car started acting up, i.e lights on everywhere with a 1 second long beep sounding every 12 seconds, rev meter/fuel gauge/Speedometer/odometer not working.
I obtained a spare set of dash clocks and installed them. Everything's great bar the odometer reading which is now showing 40000 extra miles on it. Is there any way to rectify this. Also, is there any way I can tell if the faulty dash clocks I removed from the focus are the original dash clocks that came with it? Have a funny feeling they weren't.
Any ideas on how to check?

You can get the mileage corrected, several garages can help with that.

They can maybe also check the old clocks.
Possibly another poster here will know what to look for.
