    Hi all

just wondering of the 20 million passenger's Dublin achieved last year, how would you find out how many walked out the front door as opposed to transit. It was the one thing shrouded in mystery in Shannon's numbers

    thanks

Are there many transfer pax at SNN? EI cannot feed the LHR pax inbound in time to let them transfer to either the JFK or BOS outbound TAs from SNN. Unless PAX are using EI to fly inbound and are departing onward with the US Carriers?

Sorry when I refer to SNN I mean historically i.e. stop over troops and so on. in recent times you go there its a choice and hopefully all increase on the island btw

I think what he was asking is out of the 20m passengers who went through Dublin, how many of them used it as a transitioning airport to a destination elsewhere?

I can't find the source but I read somewhere that the number of transfers through EIDW was in the region of 15%.

But don't take it as gospel.

Statistics used to be published on the number of transit passengers in Shannon; I think the issue was more that they weren't really "transit" passengers, in that the Stopover was an unnecessary regulatory requirement that aircraft had to comply with.

As for the Dublin figure, they did release some information about this last October.
    http://www.routesonline.com/news/29/breaking-news/221369/world-routes-continuous-growth-at-dublin-airport/

Transfer passengers are the fastest growing segment of the market at Dublin. “In the first eight months of this year, Dublin Airport handled 378,000 transfer passengers, which is an increase of 43 per cent on the same period in 2012 and 80 per cent higher than the first eight months of 2011,” added Harrison.
I don't know what the end-year figure was. Of course, I'd expect that transit figure doesn't include folk who buy separate tickets for each leg of the journey. The UK tax regime would give people an incentive to buy separate tickets.

With the 20 million mark now broken, what number will it take to spring DAA to start develpoment of the new runway?

Transfer pax rose 36% to 550k (of 20M), so nowhere near 15% but still a decent amount of traffic compared to the tiny numbers in the past.

I believe the line is 23.5M

With targets of 25mill being looked at its exciting times, once the airport looks at getting pax out the front door as well as from one plane to another. I don't know the figure for building the runway but it is a trigger to start so hopefully soon we will get 10L/28R as well as lots of new carriers
