Different car insurance groups in UK, do they apply here too?

You often see cars listed as 'Only insurance group 6' in reviews/adverts etc, but I was wondering if these groups apply in Ireland or are roughly equivalent?

We dont use fixed insurance groups like the UK, but generally speaking they are a pretty good guide as to how an insurance company will see a car over here.
