In History for my leaving cert im required to do a Research Study Report worth 20% of my exam. Im wondering what would be an interesting topic to do it on. I was thinking about doing something like an assassination. Only catch is that it should not be something very well known eg. JFK Assassination. Otherwise my examiner will know inside out and it will be harder to get marks on.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Does it have to be on the curriculum? Might be a grim subject and I'm picking this out of the blue but would you consider the Rwanda genocide in the 94, I'm sure your examiner would look favourably upon a decision to take on a difficult quite emotional piece.

Just checked out the Rwanda genocide. Unfortunatly I ran it by my teacher but it has to be before 1993. And this took place in 94 so I just missed out on it. I was thinking of doing the Battle of Verdun in 1916.

    Iran-Contra or Operation Gladio.

Are you proposing to include Conspiracy theories in your thesis? Might not go down too well with the examiner.

The above aren't conspiracy theories, they are hidden history which are intentionally conflated with "conspiracy theory" to delegitimise them, a conspiracy in itself.

You could also do the CIA's overthrow of the democratic Iranian government in 53 or Israel's nuclear weapons programme/ Vannunu.

So many topics to choose from. I wish I did history for my leaving cert. the Cuban missile crisis would fe a good one. I rememember my dad telling me his teacher told all students to go home on a particular day as everyone thought it was going to kick off.thankfully it didn't.

Laughable comment ... Conspiracy theories have a place in History

Gulf of Ton-kin is one and there are so many more

    Operation northwoods is another

you could always try old media stuff.

there is one Conspiracy theories that alway goes down will, the sinking of the lusitania.
