I'm at a loss, I've been quoted for 3 new external doors:

French double doors, back door and front door. The quote I was given was for passive spec certified doors. I visited the suppliers show room today and the passive doors look great u value 0.78. I also had the opportunity to view their standard doors also. These included a composite triple glazed door, standard UPvC back door and French door, triple glazed also u value 1.2

My problem us this: my house is a standard construction house 100mm cavity (pumped) 400mm in attic etc, are the passive doors overkill for the house? Will I really see the benefit from them over the standard doors?

you have much less chance of condensation forming on a 0.8wm2/k (equivalent to 40mm rockwool insulation approx) door than you do on a 1.2wm2/k (equivalent 20mm rockwool insulation approx) door

how ever the point you make is a valid - alot will depend on how your doors are installed and overlapped with the wall insulation and how the threshold is insulated. this is a factor you should be considering carefully.

I take it this is a retro-fit project?

It's a retrofit, the company that are fitting the doors are "joiners from the southern province". I was thinking of having someone install the doors as I've heard some bad feedback on their install techniques . Do you have any advice as to the best way to go about it, thanks!
