Saorview box vst7100 issues

Hi , not sure if this is the right place to post but mods you can move it if required . Have a bit of dilemma here . Parents inlaw are after getting Saorview installed with a Vst7100 model . **** has hit the fan regarding it's functionality . Apparently you can't watch an Irish Chanel & record another irish channel at the same time . This may be the case for watching English channels too . Is this common for Saorview boxes or is this actually something different altogether from a true Saorview setup .Apologise for the vagueness here but they are fairly distraught at the moment having handed over €500 to get it installed . Guy will only offer a €50 refund & will charge them to get it uninstalled . I was doing research for them into it but they went ahead & done it themselves .
Is there any work around with watching an Irish channel & recording an English Channel at the same time .
Any help would be much appreciated .

Those basic combi boxes only have 1 terrestrial & 1 satellite tuner. Your choice of channel to watch & record can only come from what the box can demultiplex at any 1 time: so, 1 terrestrial & 1 satellite, 2 from the same satellite transponder or 2 from the same Saorview multiplex.

    Saorview multiplex (mux.) 1 carries RTE2, TV3, TG4, 3e & the RTE news channel. Mux. 2 carries RTE1, RTE1 +1 & RTE jr.

Could you recommend a box which allows 2 from the same satellite transponder or 2 from the same Saorview multiplex . Would it just be a case of swapping out the box with the box which carries these functions ?

The one they have will do that (at least any I've come across will). You want something that will allow watching & recording from any combination of satellite or terrestrial channels.

That means 2 satellite & 2 terrestrial tuners. This isn't available in a cheap 1 box off-the-shelf device.

What about the TV where this box is in use? Maybe there's any chance it would have a useful tuner? Post the make & model here (unless it's something really old).

Would it be possible to split the signal coming in , you know the old type ones for coax splitters . Run one cable to the tv , one cable to the box . Set the box to record say the irish channel . Then switch over to let's say an av setting on the TV and watch the other irish channel there . Would you need a second box for this ? . Yeah I know it's an arse ways of doing it but just trying to come up with ideas here .
Haven't got the specs of the TV , the mother in law in a bad way at the moment so don't want to disturb her .

For the TV to be any use, it will need to be capable of receiving & decoding the Saorview or satellite channels, using its own tuner(s). Not an AV connection from the box.

No easy one box solution out there that'll do what you want. A 2 box solution might be the way to go

To watch/record the Irish channels the Walker WP6500TTR-HD (http://www.walker.ie/products/WP6500TTR-HD.html) is the only Saorview approved PVR on the market. Twin-tuners, built-in hard drive, 7 day guide, series linking etc. Single cable from the aerial required.

To watch/record the UK channels a Freesat+ receiver will give you twin-tuners, built-in hard drive, 7 day guide, series linking etc. Two cables from the satellite dish required.
See a list of Freesat receivers here http://www.joinfreesat.co.uk/ (rh column) and here http://www.freesat.co.uk/get-freesat/recommended/freesat-plus

If I got a 2nd box how could I set it up . Would I get a splitter & split the original feed and hook the 2 feeds now into the individual boxes . Could you recommend a fitting for this ?

Which second box are you referring to, the Freesat or Saorview box?

An aerial feed for Saorview can be split but a satellite feed cannot and requires a connection directly to the dish for each tuner.
