    Our little lad was diagnosed with a medical condition that I really don't want to outline here.

    I thought it would be a good idea to set up a site, similar to boards to allow parents of children with the same condition to discuss issues and share experiences etc.

    The hypothetical exposure scenario is this. Website is set up and a parent places a comment along the lines of "that Dr.X in hospital Y, he's a complete chancer and waster, don't bother with him" etc, etc.

    Now, what if Dr.X in hospital Y decides to sue?

    Am I, the registered owner of the domain and website responsible, or is the person who makes the remarks responsible?

    How robust is the current legislation and case law?

    Have a look at the ECHR case of Delfi AS v Estonia re liability of websites for third party comments, etc.
    Check here:http://hudoc.echr.coe.int/sites/eng/pages/search.aspx#{%22appno%22:[%2264569/09%22],%22itemid%22:[%22001-126635%22]}

    I went looking for a thread on this from a few months back, but I couldn't find it.

    OP bear in mind the practicalities also. While you might be vindicated after a long legal battle can you afford to fund a decent defence against a consultant on 150K+ a year.

    Are you willing to put the time in moderating the site you suggest. I'd suggest PMing one of the mods here to gage how much time them spend dealing with muppets like me, let alone the possibility of defending a defamation action.
