    Hi guys,
We were living in a house that we were renting of the Council through the ras scheme for nearly 3 years. From day one in the house we had nothing but trouble. We went 7 months with no heating and everytime we contacted the landlord there was nothing done about it. We then contacted the Council and they told us to contact the landlord. It was just a vicius circle. They whole back yard in the house was covered in Decking and there was rats nesting under it and no matter how many mice I would catch in the house there was always more. Again I made nurmourus attempts to contact the landlord and there was nothing done about it. I went to the council buildings and talked to them and they said they would contact the landlord. I eventually got a call from the landlord and his exact words were " your a prick, what did you go to the council for? What do you want me to do rip up the ****ing decking?" at that point I lost the head and he hung up the phone. I wouldn't have minded so much but I have the kids in the house.
During all this my partner was pregnant and she took very ill and was admitted to hospital. She was in and out of the hospital through out the whole pregnany. In September of this year she gave birth to our son Darragh. It turns out that Darragh is going to be disabled because one side of his brain is not developing. He is still in Crumlin hospital until this day. He was home for a couple of days over Christmas and then went back in for surgery. We had a meeting today with his eye doctor and she said that he has cateracts. When she start talking about the possibilities of how he got that it turns out one of them is from been around rats and mice. I told her about the story of the old house we lived in and she said its a huge possibility that she could have come into contact with rat urine or mouse droppings in the house. They done a few more tests today and they are going to confirm if this is the cause of it. Thankfully our 3 year hell in that house is over as we found a brilliant landlord just before christmas who done up a house for us let us move in.
I know we ware out of that house now but if this turns out to be the reason for my sons condition and the reason my partner was hospitalised for all that time what do I do?

Start off by speaking to a solicitor.
