why do protestants not kneel when they attend mass in an RC church(ie births deaths and marriages)

i have witnessed this quite a bit, and dont understand why

it just seems a bit disrespectful

They don't kneel in their own churches so the whole idea of kneeling is foreign to them. They are not being disrespectful. Likewise you won't see them genuflecting or making the sign of the cross.

but you will often see situations of mixed marriages where the protestant spouse may attend catholic ceremonies and fall in with everybody else simply because they have become more accustomed to it and don't want to look rude.

    pretty much agree.

mind you, I was at mass in St Peter's Cathedral before Christmas and half the folk there didn't kneel.

as (probably) the only prod there, I DID kneel, but then I've been Anglican for 25 years so I'm used to getting the old knees dusty!

Seems really handy. All that getting up to stand and then knell, and then rinse and repeat, is a massive pain in the ass. I reckon they've the right idea

I don't go to mass so much any more but I don't see the need to kneel when there.

... I see no issue with kneeling or standing when everybody else does ... its common courtesy and good manners to do so ... and the same would apply when a Roman Catholic attends a protestant service.

The Jews wear shoes in their Synagogues. You're thinking of Mosques.

    - its probably because of all those statues in front and people kneeling before them
    - its probably the wine and wafer that the rcc believes becomes literally the body and blood of christ, which of-course implicates that the creator christ becomes the created.

in both cases, it is categorized by many protestants and alike as idolatry and contrary to scriptural truth.
