Just a quick question or four :)

    1) If a vehicle fails on something unrelated to the tyres or boot, can you put hub caps back on and items back in the boot if it needs more than a visual retest or is there a chance they will fail it if it's not prepared as requested for the initial test? In my case, it failed on the front suspension links.

    2) I don't see any option to go on the cancellation list on the website. Is it possible to do this for a retest and if so how? I assume there would be no extra charge for getting a cancellation spot as opposed to going with the initial retest date?

    3) Do full tests and re-tests have a different booking system? So is it easier to get a retest booked as it will likely be a lot quicker so they may have more spaces?

    4) Has the full test become less comprehensive? I seem to remember it taking longer before, seemed to be done in 15-20 minutes this time.

    Any feedback appreciated :)

    1. During retest, they'll test what's been failed, so feel free to fill the boot in and put hubcaps back.

    2. There's no online cancellation list, you must ring/email them.

    3. Not sure if booking system is the same or different, but in fact retest is significantly quicker, so easier to get a slot.

    4. They're under pressure, soooooooooooooooo many cars been bought, all have to nct'd. ;)

Thanks a lot joujoujou :) Will pop the hubs back on and everything now and I guess just wait for my booked retest at this stage! Interesting to know they may not be checking as much as before though, I thought it would have got more stringent as opposed to less.

    Hi folks
I have a 2006 Opel Vectra bought in Feb 2012. After 6 months some of the dash malfunction indicators started to come on and the petrol gauge failed. Had it checked, turns out someone who did not know what they were doing had messed about with the ECU wiring and the whole thing needs replacing. Auto elec had a look but couldn't do much other than a temporary fix which lasted a few weeks before dash lights started coming back on and petrol gauge failed again. The problem is worse win cold/wet weather, fine during summer.
However auto elec said as it doesn't affect the driving of the car at all and is very expensive to fix, it would be fine to leave it as is. The issue is now that I have my NCT next week and the current problems are a light bulb warning on the dash (bulb itself is fine) and the petrol gauge is not working. Anyone know if this will fail the NCT?
My plan is to just go for the test and if it fails as above, then return to auto elec to tweak the wiring to last just long enough for the retest.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
