Acoustic Echo

    Hello,

Hopped on the VOIP bandwagon today to see if its possible to try and minimise telephone costs but I'm having a bit of an issue.

I created an account with freevoipdeal (betamax) and configured it to work with my mobile phone (Nexus 4) using SIP settings,

When I make a call, it sounds perfect on my end but the receiver of the phone call hears an echo of themselves speaking that I cannot hear, I've tested this on 2 phones and its the same case - from looking it up it seems to be a thing called acoustic echo but is there a way to stop it?

On a 30mb package with Vodafone with low ping so that shouldn't be an issue

    Thanks

    Kevin

Try it on another provider (Not a Betamax one) to isolate issues on your provider's side. Also if its an ATA, try resetting it.

In addition to Mr. G's suggestion ....

I would wonder if it is the MIC of the phone picking up the sound from its speaker ..... maybe there is a way to lessen the effect by reducing the volume from the speaker .....

It is one of the noticeable differences when compared to a Skype call ........ it appears that Skype mutes the microphone when it is not being used ......

..... maybe it is time to bring back the 'press to speak' button ....... :D:D

Would a ( perhaps bluetooth ) headset have the desired effect ?
