Best view in Dublin?

I'm hoping to get a few snaps done for promotional purposes with my vans and want to get a shot with say 4 vans side by side and Dublin in the background, if possible with say Killiney Hill and the Poolbeg chimneys visible. I've got one place in mind already, it's not perfect but it's pretty good. Just looking for any more suggestions please :) It would need to accommodate the 4 vans, preferably with nothing but a clear view behind and enough space then to get the whole lot in a nice shot.

    Any recommendations greatly appreciated!

Moved from After Hours. Dublin city charter now applies.

Do the Etihad skyline tour on roof of Croke Park. A pic of 4 vans on the roof of Croke Park....guaranteed revenue for your business

Dollymount Strand, would give you good views of the Pigeon House & Dublin Port. So would Sandymount Strand. The car park at the top of Howth Summit, would get you all of Dublin Bay, the Pigeon House & over to the Wickla mountains to boot.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions everyone :)

I think I'd prefer Vans>Land>Water rather than Vans>Water>Land if possible. The spot I have in mind is pretty good, just will be a little awkward with the vans. It's close enough to here: http://goo.gl/maps/zQo0r but I'm not going to link it as it's almost on private property, so maybe somewhere close to that similar view but with easier access and a higher view point would be great. There's a car park close to that actually but the view isn't the best from it and I'd rather have the vans on a gravel path than not parked within the lines of a carpark, hahaha, getting into some real specifics now :pac:

Water before land but the Carpark at sandymount strand when tide is out with chimneys in the back

Just had a look on street view there (http://goo.gl/maps/MXlQk) I've driven by it plenty of times and maybe you could get a wide enough shot to fit the chimneys and Killiney Hill in, unfortunately though, there's a height restriction on the car park so the vans wouldn't get in :(

Possibly this is too specialised. What about Photoshopping the vans into images of the most iconic Dublin landmarks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Had considered photoshopping before too but don't want it to look cheap and fake and also thinking while I'm at it, I might like to get a time lapse shot taken on a nice day with sunrise/sunset/night and be able to loop it so with shadows and everything, the real deal would probably be easier?

There's a spot in Wicklow with a panoramic view of Dublin. Can't remember exactly where it is, it's on a junction on a bend and there's parking space. Dunno about 4 vans though, and Dublin looks very flat although you can deffo see the Pidgeonhouse towers.

Thanks for that :) If you happen to remember and could provide a street view link that would be great :)

Killakee car park, The best view of all Dublin on a clear day.

Thanks for that, had a look there and it looks great for shots from the wall: http://goo.gl/maps/qwJbK but to get 4 vans into the shot you'd have to step a good bit back and there seems to be a lot of trees in the way too so you'd really only see the trees and vans I think :o

Something a bit more "tradition" could be the 4 vans in the left-hand lane southbound on O'Connell Bridge taken from the new Hawkin's Street LUAS bridge and of the Ha'benny bridge etc. Westwards

Up near the blue light perhaps?

Thanks for the suggestion :) That could be nice alright but probably a nightmare to set up in the city!

;) Think I'll probably end up taking it from around there alright. I'd say there's a few houses up on the hills with amazing views, would be great to arrange with the owner to use their drive way for a day to get the shots :)

Theres a car park up at Fun Fitness in Sandyford with views over Dublin and the sea. Can't get a street view image as it doesn't go into the car park which is higher up than the roads with the Street view.

Thanks a lot, might check that out, do you know is Killiney hill visible too from it? I'd say it'd be very busy there if it's a sports centre so you might have traffic getting in the way the whole day :(

Been up there a few times with my friend and her kid. Massive car park hardly used, so plenty of space for pictures and no interruption. Not sure about Killiney hill I'm afraid. Best thing to do is go and scope it out but I'm pretty sure you can see the chimneys in the distance. Been a while since I was up there.

Don't know if its the same one you're talking about, but there is a view point on the way to Johnnie Fox's with a lovely panoramic view over Dublin.

What type of company do you own , might be easier thinking of more suitable setting ?

For the one I'm talking about go onto Google Maps and look for Killakee Road in Co. Wicklow. Follow the road to the South and the view point is on the last bend, just before you get to Old Military Road. There is a small car park so it's easy to recognize. It looks crap on Street View tho, it's way more impressive when you're there!

I second Mince Pie's suggestion of the car park at Fun Fitness. Also the car park at the DSPCA on Mount Venus Road has great views across the city, but it would need to be a clear day. There's loads of room up there also.

It's a furniture removal company and I'm based in South Dublin :)

Yeah that's the one I've linked to in post 14, will take a wander up anyway and see what it's like up there, thanks :)

Thanks again, no way to get a view from DSPCA without going there I think, looks like it has gates too but I can always ask :)

The gym is closed so the car park is empty most of the time and its a fairly big one so any cars that are there are generally up near the building.

Ooops, sorry, I didn't realize it had been mentioned already. There is the exact same views over the city but from a closer perspective from some hills around Hunterswood, Woodstown Village, etc. but I couldn't give you an exact location for that cause we were completely lost in the car when we found them

Thanks again folks :) I just need to spend an hour or so driving about to get a good spot and check out the places mentioned.

Just found a few stills, if you drag the orange man around you'll see the road/location he is in this link: http://goo.gl/maps/0V4cr isn't street viewed but there's a few blue dots where photos have been taken from with some very clear views, might be worth a trip to that golf course and see what it's like up there :)

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 585 ✭✭✭WildRosie

Yeah that's around ticknock, beautiful spot with great views. Would give you a higher up view but similar aspect as the gym.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Great stuff, is that road there accessible to the public and would it be ok to drive it in a van do you know?

  • Users Awaiting Email Confirmation Posts: 585 ✭✭✭WildRosie

Yes it is accessible, it's a forest park sort of place with picnic tables and the like. Not sure if you'd get a van in, there may be one of those overhead barrier things to keep out caravans at the entrance...but not certain of the height of them, or the height of vans for that matter :P

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,844 ✭✭✭✭cormie

Thanks a lot, maybe the google street view car couldn't fit under with the camera mounted on top which is why there's no footage  I'll take a look in the car van to scope it out, thanks again :)

my suggestions would be Ticknock or the Three Rock whichever preferred and Hellfire Club near Tallaght, great views from both of the points, there is some industrial motives in Ticknock - huge steel masts overlooking Dublin or some scary old buildings like Stone Age tomb - the Hellfire Club

The Blue Light Car Park sounds like the place youre after ir from the top of 3 Rock

    I am too !

Where is the Pine Forrest? I remember it having great views over Dublin. It used to be a favourite picnic spot of my parents, but I don't see it listed on any of those links. Does it have a more "official" mountainy name?
