I am not sure if this has been asked before but in light of the court hearing in the UK about that man who was shot last year. It got me wondering, what are the criteria or 'boxes to be ticked' as such in order for a Garda to draw his fire arm and more importantly to pull the trigger? I am just curious as to what the criteria are over here.

    Thanks

    :)

There is no criteria I think you will find. Like any use of force the officer concerned would have to justify it.

    It's that simple

You won't get the brief here but all force must be proportionate, necessary and lawful.

Being proactive to an immediate fatal threat to the life of the Gard or a member of the public I guess.

Well that's what I hope it is.
