You could probably do with employers liability too

FBD and Aviva had it between themselves but Liberty has entered the market and may be competitive if they want to build market share

Zurich are also quoting through Sparrow insurance brokers

as Farrell mentioned EL is vital also , more so than people realize

FBD were the ones giving this cover at one stage even though some brokers pretended it was in the policy

Have it with Aviva, Farm 70A tractor insurance, PL, 5KEL 70K stock, stock in transport and lighting/electruction, slatted shed, meal bin and contents, hayshed and 5K for silage and or hay. House 180K contents 70K.

May be slightly out with some figures last year 780 I think due for renewal in early April

Farm van is on a separate policy costs 300 yoyo's not with Aviva, Tractor is comp but is 20Y old. Employer Liability is only 5K wages would have to find policy to check excesses but must not have been huge as it did not stand out at time

Are you saying all that insurance costs €780/year? I have 70 acres public liability and house insurance (house 120k contents 20k) with FBD it's costing over €500/year.

There can be claims where no wages are involved, and Public Liabilty will not cover.

Employer Liability should these cover these, .. this where some people slip up

Be sure employers liability would cover someone that isnt on the payroll .
A young lad working for me a few years ago broke his ankle , what ever crap policy I had only covered mon to fri and it happened on a saturday morning . Lucky enough he didnt sue but i shocked at the time when the solicitor was pointing out all that was wrong with my policy .

I nearly wore out the key board trying to stress this last year, and I promise this is going to be my last post on the matter.

A few years ago I "stitched" from FBD through a broker, when the policy arrived and I read the small print, it was completely different from what the broker that told me .. in regards to EL and to forestry cover. .. actually I got a refund very fast

    anyhow back on topic

lets say you are driving cattle on the road, and Joe is cutting his lawn. You ask joe to stand at his entrance, and he gets a knock from a bullock

PL will not cover this, EL will. Since you asked Joe for assistance, eventhough no wages , he would still be deemed as a employee.

Similar if you ask some boy to help calving etc,

on FBD advise we have all the family c/w boyfriends / girlfriends plus any neighbours, castual workers, named on the policy as employee,

this is not necessary as the policy is open, but in the unfortunate event of a claim by any of the forenamed would eliminate unnecessary investigation

all very well saying you saved x amount you have to match like for like, all insurance companies cover is different, its abit like health insurance, bit late only finding out you are not covered when you have a claim to make

You're right, it's just a personal accident, personal liability for when you accidentally injure yourself or someone else or damage their property

Given the numbers of stock being stolen throughout the country its strange that none of the companies can offer insurance as the NFU do in the north!

ANYONE use Zurich, got a quote from them and it seems very cheap compared to FBD, awaiting the fine print,

No but switched to Aviva few years ago. Have had no claims in the intervening period. Just bit worried now after all I read here.
Didn't read small print in detail.
Anyone have any previous issues with Aviva that I should be concerned about?

Public liability Arises when you accidentally injure someone else or damage their property....in this type of scenario it is the individuals 'personal' liability to the public - hence the term public liability...

Check Section 2 - provides 'public' liability up to 2,600,000

We are wit aviva and find them good. Took out livestock accident cover which Will cover an animal getting hurt eg cow doing splits on slats or bull hurting himself. Was very reasonable and is something that happens to everyone from time to time.
