Hi, I'm starting a voluntary job as a teaching assistant in one of my local secondary schools very soon to gain teaching experience. I'm meeting with the principal tomorrow morning and it has dawned on me that I can't remember how formal teachers dressed at my school. Would jeans be totally inappropriate? I'll be a teaching assistant of English and Geography but may also help out at extra curricular activities too. Should I ask what the dress code is tomorrow?

    Any advice appreciated,
    thanks,
    Nicole.

Just ask tomorrow and maybe have a look at what people are wearing while you're there.

Nothing with a neckline too low or a hem too high if you are female. Neat, clean, not too much jewellery perfume or aftershave.

    No jeans.

If male, trousers, shirt and tie on the first day at least until you can suss it out.

If female, decent shirt and trousers or suit skirt for first day. Nothing too high on the leg, low on the neckline. Suss out the staffroom in the first day or two.

smart casual. Trousers for guys, pants for girls or a skirt. Not too casual, not too glam until you see whats what. Also ask the principal and err on side of caution.
