Ubuntu - simple question

    Dear all,

    I'm an old school UNIX user and am not familiar with the more modern, 'point-and-click' based Linux OS's that have come out.

    I have installed Ubuntu as dual-boot with Windows 7 on a work PC and am simply trying to figure out how I can run shell commands from the Ubuntu desktop. Even better would be to just get it to load-up to the command line from start.

    you could change the run-level in /etc/inittab but theeasiest thing to do issimply press CTRL-ALT-F1 (F1-F6 will work) to get a vterm.

    CTRL-ALT-F7 will bring you back to the X desktop. you could run xterm from here to get an x terminal window.

    I hope that gets you on the right road.
