Travelling into Dublin as I do every day, I've noticed that as I approach the M50 junction near Liffey Valley, the N4 road markings have been replaced with "R148" markings so I'm guessing the road within the M50 has been downgraded. I had a look at openstreetmap and this would appear to be the case. I've noticed that all national roads (bar the N11) has been downgraded within the M50 boundary.

However, with regards to the N4 within the M50, the N4 signs on poles still remain which leads to some confusion as to what road I am travelling once I get inside the M50. Obviously they can't do everything at once and changing overhead gantry signs is a big enough job but I would have expected that they could have tied in the change of pole and gantry mounted signs with the much smaller job of changing the painted signs near junction 1???

Its the R148. The gantry signs were generally patched, the pole signs will generally need to be fully replaced.
