Trade-in Yaris for Mini

Looking for some opinions on an idea I've had for a while but I don't know a whole lot about buying/selling cars and neither does my other half so could do with some advice.

I currently drive a 2008 Toyota Yaris Luna, 1L, 5 door, petrol. I've had the car since 2008 but didn't buy it new, I'm the second owner. It has never given me a minutes trouble, I've had it serviced most years at a main dealer, no major issues have ever come up - just new brake pads and other small things that you'd expect when you've been driving the car for years. I bought the car with a loan from the CU which I've paid back so there's nothing owed on it.

All that being said I'm really bored of it! I've wanted a Mini since I was in my teens and I would absolutely love one! I can probably only afford to spend an extra 1k max on top of trading in my Yaris - does anyone have an idea roughly what the trade in value for the Yaris would be? Seeing as I'd have to buy an older Mini would I be opening myself up to a bigger chance of expensive things going wrong with the car? All I've ever had to spend on the Yaris is service costs and new tyres so am wary of changing for that reason. Thanks!

I have a 2007 Cooper S. Lovely car to drive but expensive to run, doubly so if you bring it to main dealer. Buy only if you know a good independent and get a long warranty with it. The Cooper has less issues than the Cooper S but won't be anywhere near as cheap as a Yaris to run.

If you do buy one get 15 or 16" wheels, get rid of the run-flats and drive the hole off it :D

With only 1k at add on top of they Yaris you are probably going to be looking at a MINI that is at least a year or two older than your Yaris. Even at that it might cost you more as garages are in the business of making money and MINIs are desirable enough that they may not fancy that sort of deal.

The best thing you could do imo is either hold onto the Yaris until you have more money to put with it or try and sell the Yaris privately rather than trying to trade it in.
