    Hi,

I am interested in setting up an education centre which would comprise of grinds & study for primary & secondary students in the evening times. I am really interested in running day time courses eg Fetac or the new Solas modules . Can anyone advise me as to how to get accreditation for this? There is no info on the fetac or solas websites currently. Am I wasting my time essentially and if I was to go ahead with the day courses can anyone advise as to funding? As in is a private centre government funded etc?
    Thanks for any advice!

Everything is changing with FETAC (now QQI). In order to offer FETAC qualifications you need to be a registered provider and this is both an expensive and time consuming exercise.

You will have to have your Quality Assurance systems approved and all the policies and procedures in place. Once this is done you will then have to apply stating what awards (courses) you want to offer and submit a written programme outlining in detail the content. There is a charge for this process (I am not sure if it is fully agree but it is in the region of €2,000 per major award and I a not sure what the charge is for the minor awards). All the existing old FETAC modules (minor awards) are been replaced by new programmes and providers are responsible for the development of the detailed programmes.

In terms of funding options there is not much available to you at present. Solas will be the body responsible for a national strategy for training and education. At a national level Solas will set priority areas for training. All the FAS training centres are coming under the remit of the Education and Training Boards (ETBs) and the ETB (formerly VEC) have to submit a training plan to Solas seeking funding to run courses etc. There will be a merchanism for private providers to bid for training a well but I am not sure what it is at the moment. Some ETBs (the new VECs) may tender out courses if they can not offer them within their existing resources.

    Hope this helps
