Hi all just a quick question. Have a first anniversary mass for a family member coming up soon, what's the 'going rate' to give to the priest?

If its a Mass in the local Church €10 is the recommended stipend. But its completely up to yourselves if you give anything at all!

Recommended offering in the Diocese of Kerry is €20 which goes directly to the celebrant. In the case where a Mass is offered for 2, 3, 4 etc intentions all of the extra offerings go the the Bishops nominated charity - as far as I remember in Kerry its for the support of retired priests.
(information from the parish newsletter for Dingle parish)

Traditionally a mass offering to a priest should be the approximate amount required to keep him for a day. But what you give is up to you.

Is he saying the mass specially, or just mentioning the person's name during the course of an ordinary mass? If the former, then you should give him a reasonable rate for half an hour's work - say twenty euro? If he's just going to mention it during his normal daily mass, then why pay him anything?
