Just popped round to this newly developed driving range this evening. Very impressed.

    - Everything spanking new.
    - 10 lovely wide bays.
    - Great bay and floodlighting.
    - Well planned targets. Distance info due.
    - Nice absorbent mats.
    - Spacious Coffee\tea room under development.

Phone camera not great as you can see.

Opened by Michael Mulryan, a well-respected and liked Galway pro. Phone still to go in, so number to follow along with website details which is due this week. Another great facility for Golf in Galway. Wouldn't rule out a short game area and the like in the future.

Nice, any outdoor grass bays or plans for such and how about a breakdown of the all important pricing options. I wish the new venture well and hope it's a success.

I'm no longer Galway based but somewhat surprised to see a new driving range open on this side of the city. There is already a driving range at Cregmore Park GC which is in close proximity but not sure if this is for members and guests only or open to the public. Never used the driving range there but couldn't imagine they'd turn away someone wanting to hit a bucket of balls.

Cregmore is a fair bit along the Monivea Rd, so like the range in Galway bay (which used to be open to the public) seems like a strange spot if you're not used to the road.

Lights make a big difference, especially during the winter, so this is probably targeting some of the people that might want to hit balls, but don't want to go to Salthill. It'd be very handy to drop into for 30 minutes on the way home for anyone working in say Parkmore/Ballybane.

I'd say Mike is targeting lessons and if things go well a concession with a golf equipment shop in a few years.

    Looks like a nice setup.
The hacker in me is looking at those lovely white walls that divide each bay and presuming there will be heavy plastic covers put over them to kill the bounce from them.

I'd be avoiding anyone with a dose of the sh**ks if not :)

Best of luck to him, nice to see something golf related opening up for a change

Looks like you could do a bit of putting on that green carpet as well.

Funny you should say that coz I did notice a couple of these lads on the bay benches on the other side.

Cregmore is open to the publc - I was actually in it today for the 1st time. Driving bays, mats etc are fine but the "field" you hit out into is exactly that - a field with a couple of distance markers and some big mounds?? It needs a good bit of work though to be fair there were a few fellas erecting some netting to catch those stray shots so maybe they're getting it ready for the finer weather.

This one at Cregboy looks much better - at least from the pictures. And its closer that Cregmore to where I work. I must pop out at lunchtime for a look.

Been there the last 2 days. Nice setup everything brand new. No distance markers tho, which for me practicing with new clubs is important and probably to most. Plenty room in the bays for hackers(parlance :D).

Not sure if the cafe is open yet but it's all set up.

There are distances written on the pillars in each bay eg W 187, B 137 etc corresponding to the different flags (White and Blue). You have to look pretty hard to see them though. Check it out the next time you are there. You can see them in one of the pics on the website - the one taken from within one of the bays looking out to the range - white writing on the pillar.

Was there today and always thought the distance markers were a bit off, but guy next to me kindly lasered them for me. They are bang on. Just thought I would say!
