    Hiya

Would people have any recommendations for a small, economical car for short, start-stop journeys? I was looking at a Ford Fiesta diesel but was advised against diesel because of the short journeys.

    Thanks

Avoid diesel if not doing long runs.

Get a small engined petrol. Or Electric!

Small reliable petrol would be the way to go, so the fiesta 1.25 would be my recommendation.

Thanks for the fast replies. My budget won't stretch beyond a 2008, I'd say and the Fiesta's must be fairly popular, am finding it tough enough to source one but will keep at it so. Appreciate the advice:)

I have about €6,000 in cash plus I'm hoping to get a trade-in of about €2,000 on my own car with it

Not that I'm trying to be smart, but if economical is part of your criteria, I wouldn't be spending 6-8 grand on a car in the first place.

I'd be going a bit older and getting something a bit more affordable and pocketing the difference (or clearing loans with it, in my own case :o ).

Every now and again I mooch through donedeal and set a limit of 4-5k (the most I'd realistically spend on a car for myself anytime soon) and there are some lovely motors to be found. Revising down to 3-4k still gives some great results.

So unless the number plate is important to you, I'd advise not spending megabucks if you're looking to overall save a few euro. €1,000 can travel quite a bit. Pay for a week in Spain later in the year. :)

But my advice is generally poor, so take it with the ould grain of salt :)

Jesus christ!? Are they not like 12-13k new!?:eek: It's a year old and already it's nearly half price!?

I Wonder how the Duster is holding (or not holding) it's value!?

I think they're only 10k new plus delivery and metallic to be fair.

Oh.. I thought they started at 12 or 13 for some reason :o.

A €2,000 drop doesn't seem too bad (suppose there's not a lot of depreciation in that original selling price).

Is it true that for additional cost, Renault will re-badge the car (as a Renault) for you?! Or is that one of those urban myths.

Still a good value car I suppose, but I'd rather buy something older and nicer myself (though everyone's taste is different. Personally I think a black duster with a decent set of wheels and window tints could be a real eye turner).
