Hi. I bought a dress a few mths ago and at the time I remember loving it. It's one shoulder and it's a quite thick chunky strap that goes right under my neck if you can visualize this! The strap really is part of the dress!
I NEVER wear one shoulder anything and bought it as felt so good and fitted on and loved the shape!on trying this dress on today a few mths after buying it I've realized ....... I HATE the strap!! My BM thinks its to close to my neck also and I'm too covered up as I usually wear sweetheart everything as I've hardly any chest!
Has anyone ever altered their dress from one shoulder to strapless? I don't want to buy a second dress

What part of the country are you in? The lady I bought my dress from is amazing! She does all her own alterations and made my veil and all. I'd say she'd have a look a d tell you straight off if she could do anything..l which I'm sure she could. She's not the cheapest tho. I could pm you her shop but she is kinda in the middle of nowhere.

I'm in Clare and I see you are in Sligo? Feel so down about it!! Does it mean that it's not "THE dress" ?
I thought I'd be excited trying it on today but I just didn't feel good in it! I want to feel a little sexy but elegant on the day but my dress feels I suppose a bit too covered!!!

Ah you poor thing :(. I understand what you mean. I don't like to be too coved up either and wanted something a little sexy but classy at the same time. I really don't k ow what to advise. But you only have your day once and you want to feel your best. IMO what your wearing majorly impacts on how you feel. I loved my dress amd felt like the "bell of the ball". You won't be happy if you're not happy with your dress. I know people will say... It's not all about the dress, it's about family amd love etc etc... But as a bride I think you want to look and feel your best aswell.

Could you get it altered anywhere? I'm sure it could be done provided there is enough material as opposed to a lack of material in the dress? Or could you sell it and purchase another? Your ideal dress could even be cheaper? The lady that did mine is in Castlerea, Co. Roscommon. She did all the alterations, made my veil, made my straps for the dress and all.

I hope you're not feeling too down about the whole thing.

If you take it to an alterations place they might b able to suggest something that you would be happier with, I used the zipyard in athlone they hav shops around country, I got my dress changed a lot got the back changed to corset and there were layers of tulle under dress which I got taken out and then shortened, I was surprised how much could be done, def try a consult with someone before u giv up on it

Aw that's awful :-( Do you have a picture of the strap problem? I understand you won't want to post a pic of the complete dress or your face but a pic of the strap issue - maybe someone here would know a person who can fix it based on what it looks like? There used to be a wedding dress shop in Ballina which would be near you? If you could get in touch with them (they might be closed now but maybe there's a number still there), they may have good advice for you - I believe they were very good there...... How soon is the big day?

To be honest, I'm having the same nature of a problem but the reverse - I thoguht I loved my dress but feel now that it's too bare and plain around the neck :-( I feel I may have rushed it and now I'm stuck with it - the wedding is next month. I loved it when I tried it on the second time last month and my bmaid took photos and I hated it in the photos :-( :-( :-(

Best of luck missus ...... let us know how you get on
