Overpriced by about two and a half grand

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 168 ✭✭satnavadays

Blimey, Is it that much overpriced even when it's a Ghia?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,623 ✭✭✭Squatman

as above its deer as fook

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

Ya thats overpriced, it's a 5 year old car, it's a saloon, which are less popular, and it's being sold privately, so no warranty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 168 ✭✭satnavadays

Thanks all for the replies. I've looked everywhere for the last few months & can't seem to find a ghia with low miles. What would be a reasonable price - €9000?

saloons or worth less than hatchback (coz they is ugly)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,302 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

I would go look at the car before mentioning price to the seller personally.

The price just strikes me as high, going in aiming for 9 grand wouldn't be a million miles away

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 168 ✭✭satnavadays

Lol personally I'm the opposite, I love the saloon and hate the hatchback

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,302 ✭✭✭Supergurrier

    MK2 saloons look fine tbh

The MK1's look awful though like the back end was an afterthought a designer mocked up in the 3 minutes before his lunch break.

    that 1.8 tdi is a superb engine-bid 9500.

Might give a call about it - don't want too over pay for it especially if it's not worth it. Would €10.5 be crazy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

Plenty of choice in the UK, even higher spec with more toys, if you would be prepared to go down that route.
Edit: actually there are very little saloons available in the UK.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 168 ✭✭satnavadays

I don't know much about importing cars from the UK, only for that I would consider importing. It's so hard to find what you want at the right price!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,728 ✭✭✭George Dalton

I reckon that car is worth €10k. Even as a private sale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,845 ✭✭✭Noccy_Mondy

Does it have to be a saloon or have you any other cars in mind?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 168 ✭✭satnavadays

Yeah it has to be a saloon - much rather them than a hatch for some reason. Considered the Honda civic saloon but not too keen on the look of them. Focus fitted the bill!

The civic is better built but the focus ain't a bad car either. If going for a 1.8tdci make sure the wet belt has been changed. If it hasn't I'd be budgeting for a replacement and I'd be doing it asap.

It is a beauty, Focus looks old when compared with it imo. I agree the engine plays an important part, but going by the looks i would think about Mazda.
Not necesarily the one posted by bazz, but the OP can look for other alternatives (including the engine options). Unless his heart is with Focus, then haggling is the only friend.

Those 1.6 psa units aren't that robust though, especially when not maintained to a T.

While the 3 looks good I wouldn't be buying it just for it's looks. The 1.6 is the only diesel option in the 3 afaik. In petrol form they are decent enough though but a little cheap on the inside :)

It's a top of the range Ghia. LX or similar would be bog standard.

So you reckon a car with 57,000km isn't worth any more than a car of the same year with 218,000km?

I would expect that car to go for 6.5k tbh. It's an asking price

that car doesn't look that fresh to me. Now maybe it's just dirty but the other focus not only looks cleaner but it looks a much nicer car as well.

tbh if it was me id rather pay the extra cash and get something decent. If i had the choice of the two id be far more interested the silver one tbh.

I think you'd be shown this pretty quickly if you offered that much :pac:

    And rightly so.
Ironically, that poster has now been shown that same exit door.
