Imported car from N.I original from R.O.I

Apologize if this has been asked before.

So we bought a car from Northern Ireland in an auction. Was wondering what we have to do ensure we follow the right procedure in registering here.

The car original was in R.O.I and had a Irish reg and was sold up north. I want to find out what the Irish reg is, as it has a northern reg at the moment.
The car is a 2010 model.

A bit out of my depth, any help would be appreciated.

Would assume you'll have to pay VRT again, if it was a recent export.
(The exporter would have gotten a check from the revenue on export)

It was shipped up to the north in October 2013 to be sold. So we will have to pay VRT.

The car has a CO2 of 135 so from revenue.ie it's a minimum of €380 or 19% of the value of the vehicle.

What do they the define as the value of the vehicle, is it the price we paid at auction?

If no vrt refund was claimed upon export, then no vrt to pay. Car will get its original registration.
Get the full vin number and give to the nct/revenue for verification so they can tell you for sure.

Value is market value, not price you paid. Price paid is irrelevant in the registration process.

So I tried to book an appointment with ncts. The site said I was registered.

Now I called them up and they said it was registered for the year.

I still have the Northern Ireland plates and I don't know what the old Irish reg that was on the car.

Anyone know where I can find that out

To be honest your supposed to keep the entire V5. It's written on it that this becomes to certificate required to register the car. Contact the seller and tell them you need it.

The car cannot be registered to a ROI Address.

The v561 is not enough to register the car. You may have to contact the DVLANI or DVLA depending where it's from and get a certificate export sent to you. (They just send the v5 which the sellers to them- if the seller did this?) It can take a number of weeks though.

isn't this the cert of export? He said it is. You can re-reg with that if it is

Nope - You need the full cert. You might have the part he can keep and post to DVLA to inform them that the car has been exported.

He says he has the cert of export, what you mean is the slip from the V5C(NI) which is different

    wrong.
you would have to wonder why the car was exported in first place, hidden history,

A motorcheck report or cartell report should give the original registration I think. It certainly does for the other way around, ie orig UK reg for a car imported into Ireland.

Knowing the orig Irish reg won't help much if the VRT has been refunded. Might be worth contacting Revenue VRT section with the chassis (VIN) number, they might be able to tell you if VRT was refunded.

BTW, you CAN register a car with an export cert.

Thanks for the all help and advice.

I was misinformed, It never had Irish plates.

Turns out that someone had tried but did not pay to have it registered here in Ireland back in October. As in they didn't pay VRT.

What I have been told is that we have to pay the previous fines for VRT. Then we have to show Revenue that we only got the car recently to get the fines back.

I have it booked to get registered next week.
