Hello all,

I got a bad tear in my back passenger seat (see attachment). It's a 3 series BMW and the tear is not on the seam but is just under where your knee would be as you sat on the seat. The tear is about four inches long.

I've been to a leather repair guy and a coach-builder (!) but neither can help save replace the whole panel but it would look pretty bad.

One of them suggested Car Medic in Dundalk (I'm based around Drogheda). I'm wondering if anyone has used Car Medic before (I've posted on the Louth forum but no feedback).

Alternatively, any other suggestions (including Dublin or surrounding counties if recommended) would be welcome.

And, gulp, any idea of cost

You might be able to pick up a seat cover or seat base on ebay for not much more than the cost of a repair.

I can confirm that this stuff holds up really well, few months on and no issues of cracking or the tear reappearing.

In my case the tear was along a seam so was inconspicous enough, in your case OP it may stand out more. Using it with a leather dye kit may be a good option, using it on top of the filler.

Or as biko said a breakers might be a good option. Also keep an eye on bmw-driver.net and bmwhaus.ie in the parts for sale sections, interiors often come up for sale there.

Nolan's Autocare in Dublin specialize in leather repairs. Might not be cheap though.

If you want it done right, Derek Nolan is the man to go to. Not far off the Red Cow exit of the M50, so you'd be there in an hour.

Might need to leave it with him for a few hours, or possibly overnight. LUAS is in walking distance, but Bluebell to Drogheda wouldn't' be too much fun on public transport.

I got fixed up with Derek yesterday. Excellent service and excellent chap to deal with. Price was very fair also and upfront.

Handy to get to being 5 mins off J9 on M50. Had to leave car with him from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

I would definitely recommend his services and I'm glad I took the excellent advices of fellow Boards members.:)

Will do, they replaced the whole panel. I have to clean the whole seat as the new panel is clean and the rest of the seat needs to be scrubbed up to match. Weather permitting, will do this weekend.

See attached pic for repaired seat.

The panel that was replaced is the panel on the left side under where your hamstring/knees would be if you were sitting on it.

You wouldn't notice which one it is!
