SPSV Area Knowledge Help

Hi. I'm applying for my licence, I've downloaded the handbook and am going to study it. But I'm worried about the area knowledge test. I live in Co.Donegal and don't know much about the area. I know most bordering towns and villages surrounding Donegal Town, but not much more, and the county is huge.
Is there anything that can help with this? What sort of a map would I need? And is there a mock test to see what type of thing it is that I should be learning?

I know it's necessary, and I will do what I can, but in the age of having access to offline satnavs on almost all smart phones I feel like needing to know what road connects village A and village B is a bit much.

I found this thread ( the last poster ) quite helpful. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056172881

It's 3 years old, but would it be the same sort of thing?

I sat and failed the test for the second time on the area knowledge part.Passed the industry with no problem each time because I had the material to study from, but for the area knowledge they can screw you up how they want. I see this test as a quick buck scheme for the department of transport. I'm sure that if I offered them a grand i will pass. The first time i failed with 76% that's like 2-3 questions wrong and the questions where OK, but the second test OMG 61%. I can go to the most experience driver in Ireland and ask him a question like the ones I had and guaranteed he wont know them, unless he lives on that particular place. Come on if you don't want anymore licensed drivers just freeze the process for a couple of years don't trick new/naive drivers on hopping to get a license or force every driver in Ireland to sit the test but not only the industry, that's the easy part. Also I think the test should be more practical on driving than area knowledge with all the technology available now its hard not to find a place but you can see every day taxi drivers are the majority of worst drivers on the road.I'm not saying all as I know a few very good drivers, but the ones that just brake every road rule just in the hope to pick a fare.
As for me € 180 short its enough. I see this worst than gambling!
