That's a pretty sh1t ad - have you spoken to the owner yet?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,226 ✭✭✭Stallingrad

Asking price seems, how shall we say, optimistic? Fine car though and arguably the pick of the E60's for reliability.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,454 ✭✭✭mloc123

Asking is high for a non Msport imo..

yeah, the ad is annoying its so lazy, feckin pictures up sideways is the height of laziness.

    havent spoken to him yet......

What do you think the car is worth ?

My money says the car's a bit rough. I'd give him a quick call and, if it sounds like I think it will, i'd move on.

just wondering, why you thinking that. is it because of the lazy way the pictures are put up ?
or is it something else, PM me if you want

It's the laziness of the ad, the fact that he couldn't even be bothered to wash the car, the lack of detail, and most of all the sixth sense you start to develop after your first couple of hundred wasted journeys looking at cars. ;)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,352 ✭✭✭Ardent

As already said, the price is a little on the high side. 8k would be more like it.

The 525i though is rare enough in this country and has 200+ bhp versus 177 bhp in the 523i. Fine car, the N52 engine is very reliable.

the 525i is a nice car alright. I love the fact that its reliable

Anan1 has me worried about it though.

If it's one time you want to make sure to get things right it's when you selling a car for thousands of euro.

How do you mean - is it that your man is selling a car and that the effort he put in to the ad is not up to scratch ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,293 ✭✭✭✭MadYaker

A crap ad says more about the seller than the car imo. Surely its still worth going to look at.

Depends on what you're looking for, how far away it is, and how much your time's worth. I wouldn't even waste a phone call on it, but that's just me.

That is one of the worst ad's I have seen in a long time it would make you wonder what else he was careless about personally I wouldn't be bothered my arse ringing him unless the car was a lot cheaper.

In fairness there is plenty of pre 08 barges around.

I'm looking for a petrol automatic. With decent room. Any tips ? ; ). And sorry reliability is the main factor.

I would look harder for another Bimmer so, would a 3.0 be too big for you??

Actually the 525i seem to be scarce enough actually.

This M Sport example looks like a better buy to me:

That's been on sale a good while though , arouses suspicion.

And I'm looking for a comfortable ride, this is m sport, I don't want sports suspension.

Well then I would certainly look at the one above you should be able to wedge a discount on a straight sale.

No the fact its being on sale awhile would not put me off. There is not alot of demand for petrol cars with bigger engines.
I'd go have a look at it OP and see what you think, of how it rides. Yes its a little harsh but I dont think the M-sport setup is as harsh as it was made out to be at all.
But your only going to know by test driving.
But the advert you posted OP I wouldnt go near as the ad is sh1t

    What about this one:
    http://www.cameroncars.ie/viewanad.php?ad_id=1006009
EDIT sorry only saw it was 523 after posting.

It's presented a lot better than the car in the advert that you originally posted. It's on sale a while because it is a larger than normal size petrol engine car.

Thanks. Yeah, the last thing I want in a car is stiff suspension, I've been there and done that and it annoyed the crap outta me. I'm looking for a car with relatively soft suspension and kind over bumps and potholes.

The first one looks to have had a tough life,

It has and it's been on sale for a long time. Price has dropped slightly. I've driven it (nearly 18 months ago). It's got some STI body-kit but there was little or no mention of service history with it (well the dealer never came back to me about it). They've tidied it up a bit.

EDIT: For the short journey (running on fumes) it pulled very well with, I suppose, the usual turbo lag.

Any thoughts on this car :

Id love a 525i, same tax as the 523, but they are just very thin on the ground. and the ones I have checked have suspicious histories.
    So I may have to settle for a 523 : (

    Looks alright!
Yeah looking for a 525 last myself and it was hard to come by one.
Best idea would be go have a look!
    Decent enough price.
There is another similar one in a garage with cream leather but at least you might get 3months warrenty outta them.
I'd go out and test a few definitely, and see what you think.

Yeah, 525i's are very hard to come by alright, pity , with the tax being the same as the 523 and you getting the few extra ponies with the 525i.

Thing is, is 95,000 Miles on a PETROL car a lot ?

Not at all on a 525i, assuming proper service history.

    nice but basic spec 525i

looks like it never done more than 60 mph.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 2,083 ✭✭✭tom_tarbucket

How does this service schedule sound on a 2007 525i.

    28,000 Miles
    38,000 Miles
    48,000 Miles
    65,000 Miles
    80,000 Miles

Too little ? By rights , should there be more ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,126 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

ridiculous going 28k between new and first service IMO. Its not only the difference in mileage between services, the elapsed time is important aswell...

That was my thoughts too. but then I was thinking with this long life service ****e that that might be ok ?

It might be ok on the 6 cylinder as the older ones at least, seem to be able to take a lot more than the 4 pots. Youd have to get a specialist to check it out. For the same motor tax, that extra 41bhp is worth waiting for in my opinion, that or going to the uk...

I don't have the time to do the UK thing.

May just have to hold out and wait for suitable 525i here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,126 ✭✭✭✭Idbatterim

in that case I would probably just wait, if you dont mind if its a manual or m sport, that will mean a shorter wait, i.e. You could always post up on ad on the below forum...

It is a 2007, and has already topped the 100k mileage line. That is more than the accepted average of 12k per year. I would be thinking somewhere around the 8k mark is more appropriate. The service record is shabby suggesting the owner was not all that bothered in looking after it. Was it a hire or company car by any chance?

Best of luck in whatever u decide.

Hi Tom, it said 82miles so I presumed this was the 2nd round of the clock, having passed the 100k mark. They never write 82000 like that, and it says 132km, not 132000km.

What do you mean second round of the clock they don't go back to zero when they get to 100,000 if that's what your trying to say. There is 132,000 km (rounding it down to nearest thousand) on the car which converts to around 82,000 miles.
