    Hello all
I am replacing a 1980s manky fake brick fireplace with a cast iron one and was just wondering what kind of adhesive do I need to attach the cast iron fireplace to the wall?
    Thanks in advance

Usually fireplace surrounds have a few brackets along the sides and are screwed to the bare wall (plaster removed). The brackets are then plastered over which is why you never see them on the finished installation.

Get some galvband ,cut 4inch strips, screw to back side edge of fireplace. Screw other end to wall. Hey presto, you have made your own brackets

    Hi
Is it just the cast iron fireplace you want to put on wall. Is there a timber surround to go on then ??

    Hi NW
Thanks for getting back to me. Yes, that's the plan, although I haven't found one that suits yet. Will the wooden surround hold the insert in place?

    Hi
When you buy the cast frame it will be square with fire ope in centre, I got some silicone fire cement, first i put it around square of frame, then around the curve in frame. Set it up to wall. Then the timber surround screws to wall. You will find on both sides of timber there will be screw points to screw to wall. Break the plaster back around these points which will allow you to set the fittings slightly back in wall and fill out with polyfilla or the likes. Job Done.

DO A DRY RUN FIRST SEE THAT FITS, MAY NEED A WEE BIT OF TWEEKING.

If you find a slight gap between cast insert and fireback use a bit of chord and fire cement to fill gap. Mine worked out about a difference of about 6mm. Sp i got some 6mm chord plastered it with fire cement. Put it in and smoothed out with a final piece of fire cement.

the idea of fire cement will stop and smoke coming into room and will also seal from fire.
