Ok, am I the only person who thinks it reads, "when it's necessary for me town get, it's you my knowledge/guiding star"?

"when it's necessary for me home get, you're my knowledge star"

I was thinking it had to be 'town' rather than 'home' because it's only baile when you're already there if that makes sense.

How would people translate it otherwise? I'd give it "nuair atá orm téigh abhaile, tá tú mo sholas treoireach."

Admittedly, it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. :pac:

"Réalt eolais" refers to the Northern Star, it is the guiding star, in that it doesn't move in the sky so could be used to give rough directions in the days before road signs and satnavs. It is a common metaphor for a loved one in Irish songs and poetry.

What the tattoo is obviously trying to say is "when I want to go home, you are my guiding star"

I think if I was getting something as permanent as a tattoo emblazoned on my craiceann, in a language I didn't understand, for all the world to see, I'd do a bit of solid research before the inking.

I suppose it's nice that he is trying to symbolically recognise the language of his forefathers, but I don't think 'twas the cleverest way to go about it.

Anyway who's going to notice? Apart from us nerds.
