    hi lads and lassies, i know the uniden bearcat scanners cant pick up mobile phone conversations anymore but could you pick up a conversation if someone is using a bluetooth hands free kit or other bluetooth device?

    Short answer: no.
    Long answer: Bluetooth is short range communications in the microwave spectrum and, more importantly, it is also digital. So you would have more or less the same issues that prevent you from listening to mobile phone conversations, only now you would also have to be very close to the source of the signal (as in only a few metres). It can of course be done, but certainly not with your bog standard VHF/UHF scanner...

    Also DECT cordless phones, Bluetooth, WiFi etc is not only digital, Microwave and short range but like GSM or 3G or LTE/4G also encrypted.

    Of course sometimes the encryption isn't so good.
