Light in the dodder

I went for a run along the river dodder in Milltown last Saturday morning around 6am when it was still dark. There was a light in the water shaped like a snake. i thought it was an electric eel but it changed into a circular shape as I was leaving and became brighter. Any idea what it might of been?
