    Hi Folks,

I'm half considering on buying an Accord diesel.
I currently have a B6 passat, and just bored of it now. I will have up to €6000 for one, just looking for opinions on them, is there any serious problems that may crop up? And what are they like for for city driving, and are they powerful?

    Cheers.

Nice cars. With your budget your looking at 05-06 models yeah?
The biggest problem with them is paying 2.2 motor tax for only 143 bhp and a very hard car to actually remap to get the best from it.

That's my biggest gripe with that generation of accord.

Biggest problems are timing chain issues if the wrong oil is used, and alternator issues due to a problem with serpentine belt routing.

Thanks for the feedback. I know the tax is a bit high, and with that power I guess it's not that appealing. Is there any other cars, preferably diesel, I don't mind the price of tax it's just I'm 18 so insurance can be a bit difficult. Would there be a considerable difference in the cost of running a petrol compared to diesel.

If you are mainly using it for city driving then why not look at a petrol Accord, they can be bought for a lot less than a similar diesel model. Petrol model is less complex so less likely to break and probably will have a lot less mileage on it at this stage.

    For example:

If you are only 18 then I think you are going to be looking at big insurance on any Accord whether it be petrol or diesel. Have you gotten any quotes yet?

Haven't tried yet, currently I'm on a 2.0 sport line passat paying about €1300, I'll have to see about getting a quote first.

I'd be doing that first. I'd imagine the Accord could have a higher rating with insurance companies than a Passat.
