diy rainwater harvest system

    Hi all

I'm hoping to build a DIY rainwater harvesting system sometime soon. Using 1000l IBC tanks...between 2-4 of them. I've two questions

    1) what would be involved in burying them underground? They have a metal cage around them. They are approx 1 mtr sq. if I didn't burry them too far below ground, how compressive would the the earth be? I have in mind that at that level most of the compressive force would settle after a short while. If thats the case perhaps some wooden support would prevent them being squashed while the ground settled. If not going with this option then id house them above ground, having to insulate them, and try and make something of a feature or utility of them..

    2) what filtration would be necessary? I think the usual 3 stage filter and uv light costs around €1000. If not planning on making it drinking water quality would some simple grid, Debris filter suffice? Something I came across suggested that if the water is released in a shower the steam could possibly have harmful bacteria in it. I don't know how likely or serious this threat is..from http://rainwaterharvestingsystemsire...n.ie/-Properly filtered and underground-stored rainwater remains crystal clear and fresh indefinitely
-If bacterial action is inhibited (underground tank) then neither ultra-violet nor chemical treatment is necessary.

    Thanks for any help

    Patrick
