What's the best affordable wifi router?

Fed up of this EPC2425 joke that UPC give you. One/two bars of signal in a small house with only one other signal overlapping the channel. I gather I can put it in bridge mode and connect my own router to it (we don't have a phone anyway).

What's the cheapest router I can buy that will give me an improvement?

Have you tried changing the channel to one that is further away (eg if the neighbour is on channel 6, change your to channel 1?).

If it is a wireless N router, that is what most routers are capable of supporting any way.

I think that model is known for problems, so perhaps a cheap TP Link cable modem would be a lot better than your current situation. I got one in Argos to extend the wireless network and it works perfectly. Cost €25 and have it a year, working great. Never has any issues. Though their support is foreign and in broken English, but have had no real reason to need it.

Disable the Wi-Fi and connect up an wireless AP - I have this TP-Link TL-WA830RE 300Mbps Access Point and it works great, very easy to configure and great range.

Without meaning to sound rude, I did say in my post that our channel is only overlapped by one other signal :) although having checked again, new networks have popped up so god knows! Half the time my laptop seems to detect a stronger signal from entirely seperate houses which is pretty bizarre,

I'll look into it thanks - but what is the difference between this and bridgemode+router? Does it offer anything more, or less?

Its actually not a bad price and a beast of a wifi router. World of difference between them. Change your EPC to bridge mode so it becomes a modem only.

I struggle to see how that could be classed as affordable. Terribly over hyped (and priced) those Asus, there are better routers less than half the price.

That TPLink posted earlier is a good cheap a chips option
