In flight entertainment on your Android?

I was just wondering if anyone uses their Android device's for entertainment on long haul flights?

If so what do you find works best? Do you use it for music and or video over the in flight offerings?

Have you used them for games? If so are there any games you'd recommend for a long flight?

Generally interested in what apps / games people use their Android devices for when there's no Internet connection on a long haul flight

Zinio magazine subscriptions pass the time.

    Download music from play music.

Need for Speed, Devils attorney and a couple of the GTA's are the games I usually play.

Upload whatever books I want to read on Play books. Make sure I've pinned whatever music from my collection I might want to keep on device and listen to (Play Music).
Watch videos with VLC, BS Player or MX player. Recently using Show Box to download media in advance so I have it if/when needed.

Showbox mentioned above is a great app to download movies. Pin music in Google play for offline use and cache news stories on Clipboard, Googles Newsstand, Pulse or whatever RSS app you use. Add a few ebooks and you should be good to go as long as its well charged and you have remembered earphones.

On my phone I'd use podcasts (Pocket Casts, BeyondPod) and music (Google Music, MortPlayer).

I wouldn't use video on a phone on a long haul flight. I like to have battery left when I land :p

On my tablet I'd load it up with video. Generally the screen on the tablets are better than the screens in the back of seats and you can be sure you have stuff to watch. If the tablet battery dies during a flight I don't really care. Generally I'd always have enough battery though. I only spend a couple of hours watching movies / TV on a flight.

On my Nexus7 I played Football manager for long haul trips.

Many long haul flights have USB connections on the entertainment sets, could charge your phone as you watch :)

Long haul, I watch stuff using MX Player, as it can (mostly) increase audio to 200% of other players.

Get a good pair of headphone! Preferably noise cancellation headphones.

Short haul (Ireland to england), two doubles, pop the music on, and wake up as we're landing.

I'll watch movies or TV shows with MoboPlayer, catch up on emails and occasionally while away some time playing FreeCiv.

Yeah, I use mine all the time.

I load it up with everything - music, videos, newspapers (Press reader), academic papers, tv shows and films. This is partly why I pay my Spotify subscription - I can download a few hundred songs for each trip (I would do at least 2-3 long-haul flights a year).

One thing I don't do a lot of is gaming. The most exotic I go is Angry Birds.

Slightly off topic but what's the best method to get showbox working on my TV?

    Best bet is to Google
    showbox setup android

Its an android app so you'll need to install on an android device then connect the android device via HDMI to tv.

I already have the app on my phone and on my tablet.
Can't use chromecast or allcast just wondering if there is another method apart from having to buy an MHL adapter.

I transferred 20 of my favourite dvds onto my Nexus 7 and watched about 5 of them through MX Player on a recent trip to Sweden. Great way to pass the time! Battery life is very good on the Nexus.

Movies (moboplayer), music (poweramp) and audiobooks (mortplayer) are all I use.
Some people can't get into audiobooks, but if you can, they're a brilliant way to pass the time

Plex is fantastic for this. I have it setup to sync the shows I watch for offline viewing, so when I wake up in the morning all the magic has happened and the latest version of a show from the previous evening is waiting to be watched.

+1 on the noise cancelling headphones. On a flight to Tenerife I could barely hear my tablet, even with MX Player

I have decent headphones but they aren't noise cancelling but hopefully be OK.

Are any of the video players worth paying for?

It would be great if Netflix allowed you download shows for offline use like showbox.

I've paid for MX Player Pro. No different from the free version except it doesn't show ads. I thought I used it enough that it was worth giving the developer a couple of quid. It's only about 2 or 3 quid.

When travelling I've mostly used my Nexus 7 for reading eBooks, listening to downloaded music from Spotify, podcasts and the odd game. I've often thought of finding other things to use it for on a plane or bus, but to be honest I'd probably end up just reading on it anyway.

I use my nexus 7 for video and music as well as games and eBooks. Spotify with offline downloads enabled is perfect for airplane use, and sticking video files of a few movies or a box set (that you legally own and paid for :p) is a doddle too. Much better than taking your chances with the dodgy choices of movies & entertainment on a lot of flights.
Have you used them for games? If so are there any games you'd recommend for a long flight?

I use my tablet for running emulators of old video game systems. There are a bunch of free apps on play store, to emulate different old games systems. My faves are SNES 9x EX+ or Mobile gameboy. As far as finding the "roms" (rips of the game files themselves that you load into the app), well that's outside the scope of stuff you can discuss on boards.ie for copyright reasons, but let's just say google is your friend.

If you have an OTG USB cable and any cheap generic USB control pad, hours fly by on long haul flights while you're stuck into super mario, sonic the hedgehog, or whatever....

That leads me to another related question, do people have stands they use for their tablets or just use them in their hands?

I have this case on mine, does the trick and holds the tablet in a nice position without adding much bulk.

That is the business! But I'm going to need to pick one up in a bricks and mortar store at this stage.

I transfer my movies to the computer and drag them to a USB stick. This is the way I watch show box on the television.
