Yunio is a cross-platform cloud storage and sync service offering 1TB of free space on sign-up. No messing about with referrals etc. to get more space. Plus space increases by 1GB for each day you sign in.

It's similar to the likes of Dropbox / SkyDrive / Google Drive but with much more free space, much bigger file upload limits and clients for all major platforms (Windows, Android, Apple and Linux).

This is a Chinese company with storage servers located in China which may be a dealbreaker for some and a benefit for others worried about NSA snooping. However if you don't mind risking the Chinese government having a look at your holiday snaps, it's a lot of storage for nothing.

There are also paid options giving 5TB+ from ~£1 per month (10CNY).

Theres a more comprehensive review of Yunio at: http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/yunio-cloud-storage-sync-service-offers-1tb-of-free-space/

Who do we trust? The 'Evil' Chinese, or the 'Lovely' Americans? :pac:

Their site has been hacked three times since i've been a member and their email database released. I left them pretty quick smart after that (For personal files).

That was ~ a month ago.
I was using them for my phone and Android devices to store and share files.

Upload and Download rate is atrocious also.

    EDIT.
For storing files for the distant future access, and leaving them upload overnight, it may be good from a blank PC.
Also, DON'T use their client, use their website.

Also the 2TB is only valid for 2 years.

  • So you're saying besides the poor upload and download speeds, data security, bad client software and time limited free storage space you'd highly recommend them?

    Maybe.
And that in 2 years time you may have to pay them for all the files you have stored up there.. :D

Might be good for 'holding' some movies that you have ripped from your DVD's/Blu-Rays for a while. But no good for streaming or downloading from (as mentioned).

Might see if i can add it to joli OS and see if i can move them around :)

All this for free? What's their business model? How are they making money?

If you're not paying for it, you are the product.

I honestly don't see how it would be any worse than facebook? What are they going to learn from the stuff you put up there. "General Yang, this witnessmenow guy has a really crap taste in music"

Folks I'm looking for a SugarSync alternative if there is one, here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057113979

This DOESN'T seem like a good choice :o

    Free! 1TB!
But nope, wasn't recommending them at all... :)

Try iDriveSync and Cubby for similarities.

For multiple folder syncing you can also try Wuala (most secure), Spideroak, SkyDrive and LiveKive (Spideroak by AVG)

There's an updated "top 10" list here — although it doesn't include Google Drive, Dropbox or Box, oddly.

I'm using about 5 different services — one for photos, one for music, one for TV eps, etc. I got 50GB free with Box, which is great except for the 250Mb file size limit on free accounts. Good for photo archives, though.

Needless to say, I don't store anything too personal/sensitive in any of them.

I store all my images online. I don't care if some snooping Employee or whoever looks at them, they're already on Facebook well at least most of them and I already had a Norwegian stalker who downloaded all my pics. Fun times eh? :pac:

I'll probably just use this as another photo archive, wish there was a service that would encripy each photo and then you can upload it encrypted. Pretty sure there is but I can't remember it.

Wuala i think. Wuala doesn't even allow opening in a browser to prevent any type of 'snooping'. They use their own (small) Java application. Encryption happens on whatever device you are using and then is uploaded.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

This seems to be working fine. I'm uploading (syncing) a few GB here to test. Upload seems to be about 1mbps which is ok.

Not planning to use this for important data, but nice to have a free 1TB cloud account all the same. Thanks OP :)
