Bus is always cheaper, but the Train can be on special from time to time:

Maybe your location isn't on the 'special list'.

I always find the bus cheaper anyways.

On Friday 20th I had to travel to Dublin, un-planned trip to finalise some business. I flew up from Kerry 8am with AerLingus/AerArann for approx 40euros, but booked no return. I did get the 1pm train home , booked for approx 60euros online with my phone.
Good thing I didn't get the bus home as received phonecall re:family emergency when I was on my way home & could not get home fast enough! :(

As far as I know those prices are only available online. I went through the whole process and it's coming in at that price.
