    Are any of the defenders of the vintage scene doing anything about testing the old trucks and vans

    Only passenger cars from 79 back the trucks and vans need ti be tested regardless of age

    Correct. I read likewise recently in an Irish transport magazine.

    Commercial vehicles of ANY year must undergo an annual DoE (now CVRT) Test - regardless of whether it is taxed commercially or privately. Apparently this has always been the case - there has NEVER been an exemption for vintage vehicles.

    I would be intrigued to know of any vintage vans/trucks/jeeps which are currently DoE-tested?!

    If it is taxed vin/vet, then its no longer commercial and doesn't need to be DOE'd , but it can't be used for commercial purposes either, that's my take on the situation.

    As I said above, the article clearly stated (as per legislation quoted in the article) that all commercial vehicles must be DoE'd regardless of their tax category. (I dont have the article to hand, it was either Irish Vintage Scene or Fleet Transport magazine).

    Heres a question. A modern crew cab can currently be NCT'd or DOE'd, if I import a 1979 crew cab does it need a DOE?

    I think it was the IVVCC that lobbied successfully for the vin/vet tax rate. Is there a similar body that cares for trucks and vans, that would lobby for same exemption.
    As regards ALL ex commercial vehicles prior to 1979 requiring a DOE, was there a DOE for vans prior to 1979. We ran an Austin A35 van, then an A40, followed by an 850T, and finally a 1978 127 Fiorino. I'm trying to remember ever having to DOE them. I remember them being taxed commercially ok.

    Maybe I am missing something here, but in order to tax them, wouldn't DOE need to be presented, just like a modern classic.

    So how are they taxed then if no DOE showed.

    Also surely just like an NCT, insurers could void, or reduce liability in the event of a claim, as you have not complied with policy conditions.

    "1. Are there any changes to test anniversary dates / validity period of a CRW for vehicles?
    The current legal obligation for commercial vehicles to be tested annually, on the anniversary of the date of their first registration remains.
    Motor caravans must be tested on the fourth anniversary of first registration and thereafter every two years until the vehicle is ten years old, after which annual testing applies. Motor Caravans registered prior to 1st January 1980 are exempt from testing.

    That's a long read, I stopped after a couple of pages. All I know is, I had to get a new tax book for a 70s Land Rover and when I asked if it was regarded as commercial or passenger was told 'makes no difference, it's classed as vintage/veteran'. That was about 4 or 5 years ago when the tax office was in Nutgrove.
