Eircom taking too long to call out

Broadband has been down since the 22nd of December now. If I'd known it was going to take this long, I would have resorted to alternative sources of help. It happens every Christmas. The lines fail due to bad weather just around the time eircom are on holidays. It's a recipe for disaster. I've been on the eircom several times, but the engineers still haven't come. I cannot afford to wait any longer. I've called someone who I happen to know who works for eircom who I know personally who said he might drop by and have thought about calling an electrician.

I live in the country side and as far as I know, the neighbour's is working which makes me suspicious. Surely there must be a way of making sure this doesn't happen or an alternative source of help to resort to??? I know with eircom that it's free when they fix it, but I don't mind paying if it's going to take this long.

    They take forever here too.

Dont use them myself. Think a 3G dongle is what Id invest in if I HAD to use eircom.

My parents had exactly the same problem over Christmas. Went on the 22nd also, and there were no issues with the neighbours. I logged a request online on their behalf, but no response at all. Understandable at first given the damage that has been done with recent storms, but after a few days, you'd at least expect an acknowledgement.

Anyway, started tweeting eircom politely pointing out that they had not replied, and all of a sudden they were responding immediately. Have heard of other people doing this too. They don't want the bad publicity, so it possibly speeds things up. Eircom has been fixed again for a week now anyway

With me, it wasn't that stopped working entirely, but worked about 5-10% of the time.

I didn't know it was possible to tweet eircom? And how do you log a request online?

been waiting for a modem to be couriered to us since Dec 23rd as the old one got destroyed in lighting storm...beyond a joke, really...(but for once not really eircom's fault, they were fairly helpful on the phone..)

Maybe the courier is picking up the modem at the factory in China and then walking back to Ireland?

I'm not quite sure I understand what 3G dongle is?

Mobile broadband. Vodafone, 3 mobile, carphonewhorehouse etc... Plugs into a laptop, desktop via USB port. Uses a SIM card like a phone.

Maybe they can't get out if it's hot in the city? It's a bit cold here where I am but it's a nice day for a white wedding.

Ours broke XMAS day lol. You should ring them again. Ask them which courier and get a tracking number, then ring the courier.

They couldn't find a tracking number when we rang on the day it was sopposed to come, but didn't. I don't think they sent it, so rang again and it was here in a few days.

Our Eircom broadband went down for a few days in the summer. No sign of any faults in the area, so in the end, I got sick of the fault and rang the help desk in God knows where (not Ireland anyway). I was told to do this and that. Fine, but it didn't solve the issue at all.

A couple of days later, another call was made and a demand to speak to an engineer. First engineer told us one thing. It didn't solve the issue, and that was after telling us we needed a new modem, which was delivered, but it had the same issues as the old one. Next call, we were passed on to someone else. Nothing was of help there. Third call, and transferred to yet another engineer. Finally, a chap that knew what he was doing. . .The fault? A simple tweak had to be made to the line or something like that anyway. And, it was after a threat to move to UPC.

So, after that call, the problem was rectified, we had our broadband back, and no problems since. I have long given out about Eircom, I have tried to get my father to change to UPC, but to no avail. It was actually him that told the engineer that we would change providers, if nothing was done. Eircom has never been the best provider, due to (usually) slow internet speed anyway, so nothing really surprises me about the problems raised here. Though, it is a different set of circumstances, I realise.

Normally I'd tell you to have a **** and relax but that may not be possible with your wonky IT situation
